Today’s leaders know that success doesn’t come from standing still. The best managers and leaders are always on the path to learning, honing their skills, building teams, and leading their organizations through change. It can feel “lonely at the top,” but on the path to learning, you don’t have to go it alone.

Starboard Leadership Consulting has been coaching and supporting Maine leaders since 2005. Our executive coaches are ready to partner with you to grow your organization, manage change and improve your performance. Whether you are a first-time manager or a long-time leader, executive coaching or business coaching will help you implement powerful strategies that result in significant growth and long-term success.

Our clients tell us executive coaching helped them to:

  • Deepen their understanding of core strengths and growth opportunities
  • Bring out the best in their employees and teams.
  • Develop strategies for more effectively communicating with others
  • Successfully manage workplace challenges and difficult employees/coworkers.
  • Lead, manage and accelerate the pace of organizational change
  • Reach new levels of performance and productivity
  • Gain a fresh perspective as they problem solve challenging situations
  • Achieve a better work/life balance

The Maine Association for Nonprofits put it plainly, “We all need a Yoda.”

Our Approach ‒ It’s Personal

Coaching is an alliance between you and your executive coach, designed to forward and enhance the lifelong processes of learning, effectiveness, and well-being. You will be working one-on-one with an experienced coach who is completely committed to helping you achieve your goals. Every aspect of the executive and business coaching process is completely customized, highly personal, and developed specifically to meet your needs.

To assure the right coaching match, we offer an initial session free of charge so you and one of our coaches can learn about each other, consider what you hope to achieve through coaching, and assess whether the pairing feels right. From the very start of your coaching relationship, you will identify the issues you want to address and retain control over the agenda. The coach will work with you to outline the process, confirm logistical details, and lay the groundwork for assessing your needs.

Assessment ‒ Essential Feedback

We begin each executive or business coaching engagement with an assessment of your needs. This process may include interviewing those with whom you work, administration of a behavioral assessment like the Everything DiSC Management, assessment self-reflection, or on-site observations. Your coach will help you identify your strengths and opportunities for growth. Together you will use the knowledge gained from this assessment process to develop personalized strategies for becoming even more effective.

Experienced Coaches

Your coach will bring significant leadership experience and a wealth of relevant knowledge to your coaching relationship. Starboard coaches haven’t just read about leadership challenges. They have lived them. You’ll benefit from the wisdom they have gained over their varied and successful careers.

Starboard’s coaches include Mike Hyde, Keri Lyle, and Scott Schnapp. Each brings unique experiences working in and within organizations large and small. They have the expertise and ability to coach leaders at any point in their career trajectories.

“Scott was a great match as my executive coach. He provided thoughtful advice based on his years of experience in the nonprofit sector. A strategic thinker and empathetic listener, Scott significantly helped me grow as a new executive director.”

-Jason Judd, Executive Director, Educate Maine

What You Can Expect

The further you advance in your career or your organization, the harder it is to get honest and objective feedback about your performance. It can also become more challenging to find someone with whom you can confide. Your executive coach will offer you a safe, unbiased, and confidential sounding board.

You’ll have a thought partner, a strategic partner, with whom you can share your challenges, then strategize solutions that are a good fit for you and your organization. While there is no “one size fits all” approach to executive coaching or business coaching, throughout your time working with your coach, you can anticipate the following elements:

      • Assessment and self-reflection
      • Personal visioning and goal setting
      • Development of action plans
      • Evaluation of action plan implementation
      • Refinement of goals based on feedback and learning
      • Addressing challenging operational and strategic issues as they occur

At the end of each executive coaching or business coaching session, you and your coach will agree upon homework or action steps to be taken. Ultimately, however, you are the owner of the process, and how you benefit from coaching will reflect what you put into it and your commitment to implementation and change.
